Reflection

This week we had Douglas Karr come in and talk about various social networking sites and techniques as well as SEO (Search Engine Optimization). What that basically is, is a way for large company's to use certain words or phrases to pop up in peoples searches. What they do is use the phrase many times in their pages/blogs/posts, and users that search for those phrases will find them at the top of their searches. Company's will pay people to do this for them because it is time consuming but they profit largely from it because the more users that click on their pages the more publicity they get which eventually will lead to them making more money. He also said that it is a good idea to be in LinkedIn. I am on that site as well and sent him a friend request while we were in class. I have used that site to network with a lot of professionals in my field as well as from professionals in many other fields. I enjoyed his presentation a lot and got a much better understanding of why social networking is being used on a much larger scale than to just connect people with other people.

  2. I think blogging helps to build your personal brand. I am getting better at doing it and do it more frequently with the various things that I do whether it be musical or technical. Also with my name not being very common at all I am pretty much the only name that pops up when you search for me. I am also on a lot of professional sites which also helps add to my personal brand. #cit49900
