Reflection on this week 5

On Tuesday we skyped into the meeting because of a bad storm and we didn't want to get stuck in it. We had talked about trying a few different variations of conference calling but in the end we ended up using skype. I was familiar with using it because one of my other classes uses skype to do conference calls for their meetings. One thing that would have benn a little better would be if Dr. Ho could have used the 'share screen' feature so that we could have seen what he was doing on his screen while he was explaining some of the programs.

After that we talked a little bit more in depth about the proposals for our class project. For mine, I am going to do a step by step process in preparing to go to Sao Paulo, Brazil.  I am going to research the different cell phone and communication technologies they use down there. I am going to look into the different forms of cable/satellite/local television channels and the Technology infrastructure that is down there. I have a friend who is living in Sao Paulo at the moment who will be able to help me with translations and some local research if I run into any problems. I have also joined the Orkut (pronounced oar-a-koo-chee) group which is similar to the Facebook that many of us in the US use except I have no idea how to navigate around it yet.

Thursday's class we talked more in depth about what each of us wanted to do for our proposals and continued the dialogue with Dr. Ho as to what we were going to be accomplishing with out projects. I think I have enough information to create a meaningful project out of the comparisons between the US infrastructure and the infrastructure in Brazil and Sao Paulo.
